After rebranding to “Novell,” Ray gradually built the company through vigorous innovation projects and taking in new developers. Soon after, Novell company came up with Novell Netware, the first computer network operating system. Netware was extremely successful in the nineteen eighties as it was compatible with IBM and Macintosh computers. The system linked desktops to desktops, desktops to printers and servers in almost every computerized office.

Mr. Noorda grew the company from having only seventeen employees to twelve thousand at its peak. This rapid growth in business is because of the multiple benefits people received from Netware solutions. Computer networking helped employees in different offices share their ideas faster in file sharing. Connection to a mainframe enabled cohesion of workflow, saving a lot of time and energy. Efficiency increased due to sharing of company resources.

A single software could be shared by connected users, also sharing processing power via server connection. Databases removed the need for manual filing, which helped to save on space. Connection to printers saved employees time in preparation of work documents. Like everything else, computer networks have their limitations too. Challenges have emerged from the continued use of network operating systems. Such problems include performance degradation cause of overworking the system for long periods of time.

Security threats have come up as malicious users try to gain access to the network. Capacity concerns occur when the number of connected devices in a single computer network exceeds the available resources. This warrants more resourceful computers with more sophisticated technology embedded into them. Slow connectivity is a common problem in any network, including the internet.
